If you’re looking for a bright spot in an otherwise bleak national economy, try Utah. A recent article in US News and World Report pegged Utah as one of the 10 Best Cities to Find a Job in 2011. There are a number of forces driving job growth in Utah.

Utah’s big companies are all experiencing some degree of growth. Growth like this has a trickledown effect so that a new call center building will bring a host of other jobs. If you’re looking for jobs like construction or data cabling in Utah, corporate expansions are great news for you.

Another factor that helps fiscal growth in Utah is the state’s very central location. Big companies like Wal-Mart like to have centrally located distribution centers that can serve large regions, such as the Mountain West.

Educational facilities like the University of Utah and Utah State also bring a lot of business to the state. As long as these institutions are sponsoring high tech research, they will also generate jobs. Anytime a new research facility goes up on one of these campuses, other high tech industries like database administration, telecommunications and network cabling, in Utah get a boost.

So if you’re looking for good economic news, keep an eye on Utah.
